Sustainable Wanaka
Skydive Lake Wanaka has been an active and keen business in the Sustainable Tourism Project in Wanaka.
This project has involved Skydive Lake Wanaka looking at where we would like to be – our ideal sustainable goal for our company, and then creating an action plan to work towards our vision.
Our vision is our mission:
- To give you, our customer, the most rewarding, memorable, safe and scenic tandem skydive in New Zealand whilst being kind to our planet.
- Since our commitment to being a sustainable business we have implemented the following changes;
- Monitoring energy uses, we have stopped using 3 refrigerated machines to provide drinks, water and snacks and combined into one machine that dispenses everything, this machine is more energy efficient and kept inside thus reducing electricity usage.
- Commenced on site recycling, we encourage our customers to leave their recyclables in a recycle bin provided at our drop zone at Wanaka Airport.
- Posted our vision in each toilet at the drop zone to remind our customers about our commitment to our environment.
- We created a web page to educate and encourage any customer feedback. Comments about our business or how we can improve our commitment to our environment can be left on our blog page
- Sustainable Wanaka are co-ordinating a free tree planting programme on Mou Wahu, Lake Wanaka starting in spring 2007 which Skydive Lake Wanaka are becoming involved with. We are always looking for ideas that are relevant to our business and its sustainable future.
- To support our community Skydive Lake Wanaka donates many tandem skydives each year to local groups to use for their fund raising and as prizes for local events.
Thank you for loving our planet too!
